GIFT OF JUMPERS

On January 2, 2014, staff and students of LEOT spent a day visiting a village about 40 minutes away from Luang Prabang, followed by a picnic by the river. Once we arrived at the village, many villagers came to see who these falangs were and probably wondered why we stopped there.
Peter Banwell had brought knitted jumpers all the way from the UK to be donated to this village.

The children stood in line, by age and size, and the staff, students and volunteers tried to find a fitting piece to give to the children. The ones not receiving a jumper or other clothes, received a book, pencil, pen or whatever other item we had with us.
It was a wonderful experience to help out and see the smiles on many of these little faces.

Just a bit outside the village, we stopped to have a picnic down by the river. As always, the staff and students prepared all the food, and the falangs (volunteers and visitors at LEOT) were spoiled with a delicious lunch.

Thank you, Nick Hubbard, for some of your pictures.

LEOT teacher Soene recorded a short video of the day.

LEOT VISITS OCK POP TOK

Today we took the beginner class from LEOT to visit “Ock Pop Tok” (http://www.ockpoptok.com/), meaning “East meets West”.
They met at Vat Muena at 10 a.m. – “falang time” – meaning at 10 a.m. and not at 10:15 a.m. ;and they were actually all present when she got there at 9:55 a.m. The students without a motorbike got on a Tuk Tuk and the rest of us drove on our motorbikes.
“Ock Pop Tok” is located about 10 minutes outside of town, just past Phousi Market, and situated in a beautiful tropical garden along to the Mekong River.
Madame Vone, working at “Ock Pop Tok” lead the 13 students around the center. She explained everything in Lao, patiently answered all their questions and the students diligently took notes as, yes, their homework will be to write and present a report on Friday in class
